Many people in our world, and in our local community, are in need of some of the most basic essentials in life. The food bank we operate at St Benet’s allows us to help those in need and show them the care and love which God has for all people.
A box for food is always kept at the back of church. People are welcome to donate non-perishable items of food. It is then used for three purposes:
1. It allows Fr Peter to give food to the homeless that call at the vicarage door. Our parish policy is that the Priest-in-Charge does not give money at the Vicarage front door, but is more than happy to give a gift of food from the parish community.
2. It can be used by those volunteering for the C4WS homeless project to cook the meal we offer our guests when they stay over night at Pond Square URC Church.
3. It allows us to make a regular contribution of food to the Chalk Farm Food Bank which runs out of Chalk Farm Baptist Church.
So, next time you’re at the super market, throw a few extra tins of food or a bag or two of pasta into the trolley, and contribute to our food bank, knowing it will go to those in most need in our local community.
