Electoral Roll Renewal

March 12, 2019 by Guy Willis

We are in the process of renewing the electoral roll of St Benet’s Church. Could we ask all members of St Benet’s to fill in the enclosed Electoral Roll Application Form and return it to Fr Peter in the next couple of weeks before Sunday 24thMarch 2019?

What is the “Electoral Roll”?
The “Electoral Roll” is effectively the membership list of our church. It includes every baptized person who worships regularly with us at St Benet’s. It is an important measure of the size of our wider church community. It also provides important contact information which can be used in case of pastoral emergency, and to keep people up to date with church events.

Why do I have to fill in a form now?
The electoral roll is updated each year in the Spring, but every 6 years, by law, it must be wiped clean and an entirely new electoral roll must be drawn up. This is to clear out names of people who might have moved away, or died, or who no longer attend St Benet’s, and produce a more accurate list of our membership.

2020 is one of the years where every parish in England must destroy their old list and create a new one. This means every single person who considers themselves a member of the St Benet’s Church community must fill in the enclosed form. This even includes people who know they were on the old electoral roll.

What do I need to do?
Just fill in this Electoral Roll Application Form, sign it, and post it back to Fr Peter at The Church House, Ospringe Road, London NW5 2JB, or bring it to church with you on Sunday morning and hand it to one of the clergy.

Many thanks indeed for your help and cooperation.

Fr Peter
