Parish News: 7th Sunday and Week of the Year

February 18, 2022 by Guy Willis

It’s easy to be nice to people you like, but rather harder when you don’t see eye to eye. ‘Love your enemies’ is the message of this week’s Gospel – something that seems almost impossible! Nevertheless it is to this high calling that Jesus asks each one of us to aspire.

You can read the scripture readings for this Sunday here.

Please pray for:

The sick and those in need
Conor, Chinye, Adelida, Jason and Rod.

The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls this week.

Please support our Confirmation candidates at the 11am Mass on Sunday 27th of February. Jonathan our Bishop will be coming to celebrate the mass and confirm. Pray for them as they prepare and please make every effort to be there!

Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, is the 2nd March and a day when all Christians should attend mass and receive the imposition of ashes if at all possible. There will be three opportunities here: 8.30am, 12 noon and 6.30pm, all with imposition of ashes.

Have you ever wondered how it came to be that we worship God in the way that we do? Do you want to learn more about the mass? Bread of Heaven is our Lent Course this year – an opportunity to learn more about the meaning and history of the main act of Christian worship. It begins on Monday 7th of March at 7pm following the 6.30pm mass and runs for 5 weeks.

Richard Arnold (Priest) RIP, died 10 years ago this year whilst Vicar of this Parish. For his anniversary on Wednesday the 16th of March there will be a Sung Mass of Requiem at 7pm followed by refreshments.

The cover art this week is David steals the spear and water-cup from an early 15th Century manuscript by Masters of Otto van Moerdrech held in the National Library of the Netherlands, The Hague.
