Parish News: Eighteenth Sunday and Week of the Year

July 29, 2022 by Guy Willis

Money is a concern for everyone: rising energy bills, inflation and interest rates are putting the pressure on household finances. In the gospel this week, Jesus tells a parable to remind us that after death, wealth (or the lack of it) is irrelevant. That doesn’t mean we should ignore the bills; it does mean we should ask ourselves if we measure our self-worth by our bank balance. God doesn’t.

You can read the scripture readings for this Sunday here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Conor, Chinye, Adelida, Jason, Rod, Edny & John.

The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls this week amongst them Barbara Sharples (4th August).

Harvest Barn Dance – Save the Date! The band is booked for this on Friday 7th October. Put the date in your diaries now for this popular parish event, details to follow.

If you worship at St Benets join the electoral roll. Paper forms available from Fr Guy or by filling in the online form by clicking here.

The cover art is the The Parable of the Rich Grain Farmer (The Money Changer) by Rembrandt, 1627. Held in the Berlin Picture Gallery.

Looking ahead: On Sunday 23rd of October, Jonathan our Bishop will be coming to St Benet’s to offer the sacrament of Confirmation (and, if required, Baptism).
In this sacrament, the baptised receive a special and fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit to help them live the Christian faith to which they commit themselves. They are also admitted to Holy Communion.
There is a course of preparation required, which will begin in September. To find out more, speak to Father Guy.
