Parish News: Elizabeth II RIP; The 24th Sunday and Week of the Year

September 9, 2022 by Guy Willis

It was announced yesterday evening that Queen Elizabeth II has died.

At 12 noon today (Friday 10th) the tower bell will toll to mark this solemn moment in the life of our nation.

At 12 noon tomorrow (Saturday 11th) there will be a Mass of Requiem for the repose of the soul of her late majesty.

From today and throughout the period of official mourning, a book of condolence will be available to sign in church.

+ May she rest in peace +
God save the King

We hear this week the parables of The Prodigal Son, The Lost Sheep and The Lost Drachma. All point to the same reality: each of us is so precious to God that he earnestly desires us to turn to him. We can find ourselves lost or wandering at points in our lives, but we will always be welcomed back with open arms.

You can read the scriptures for this week here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Conor, Chinye, Adelida, Jason, Rod, Edny & John.

The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls this week.

The cover art is The Lost Sheep by William J. Webb (c.1830–c.1904) held in the Manchester Art Gallery.
