Parish News: The Twelfth Sunday and Week of the Year

June 23, 2023 by Guy Willis

Jesus assures us that if we declare ourselves for him, he will declare himself for us. It is easy to stand up for Jesus when we are worshipping together in church, but of course it gets harder when we face hostility. Many of our brothers and sisters throughout the world face even today face violent persecution for being children of Christ. Their example encourages us to stand with them and declare ourselves for Him.

You can find the scriptures for this week here.

You can now donate using card online to support St Benet’s: every penny counts! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Conor, Chinye, Victor, Mercy, Olga, John and Isaac.
The Faithful departed
The recently departed. All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls about this time.
Those to be ordained by our Bishop:
Duncan and Roger to be ordained deacon on Saturday 1st July, 11am at St Andrew Holborn.
Andrew, John and Stephen to be ordained priest on Sunday 2nd July, 5pm at St Andrew Holborn.

Our Patronal Festival in July:
Tuesday 11th July, 7pm: High Mass and Procession of the Relic of our Patron St Benedict. Preacher: Fr Christopher Smith SSC, Vicar of St Alban, Holborn.

Sunday 16th July, 11am: Pontifical Mass of St Benedict, Parish Party, Table Top Sale, Bouncy Castle and Face Painting. Preacher: Jonathan our Bishop.

Patronal Festival: can you help?
At the party on Sunday 16th July we need food and drink to share and volunteers to:
– Organise the Table Top Sale
– Offer face painting for children
– Supervise the bouncy castle
Could you give £10 towards the £95 cost of the bouncy castle?
Could you give £100 towards the £1000 cost of the music over the festival?

The cover art this week is Ordination by Norman Blamey, 1956, held in the Tate. He worshipped at St Pancras Old Church and was a server there.
