Parish News: The 25th Sunday and Week of the Year

September 22, 2023 by Guy Willis

Thus the last will be first, and the first, last. The end of the the Gospel set for this Sunday sounds positively revolutionary, and it is. But maybe not in the way it first appears: the parable shows that God gives to each not according to what we deserve but rather according to his overflowing generosity and grace.

You can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: every penny counts! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

You can read the readings for this Sunday here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Conor, Chinye, Victor, Mercy, Olga, John, Isaac, Cordelia and Lotlia.
The Faithful departed
The recently departed, all who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls about this time.

This coming Saturday 30th September at 10am we are invited to join the people of St Pancras Old Church for a Choral Mass followed by drinks and brunch with talks about the recently completed restoration of that church.

Brenda, a longstanding member of our congregation, would like to come back to church but can’t manage the walk. Would you be able to help push her chair up from Osney Crescent once every few months? Please speak to Nathan for more details, who is putting together a rota.

The annual Barn Dance returns on Friday 6th October 6.45pm to 10pm:
– Pro band & caller
– Free nibbles
– Bar
– Raffle
Prices held from last year: £2.50 per child, £5 per adult. Book now online or pay cash or card to Nathan after mass.

We need prizes for the barn dance raffle which are suitable both for adults and for children. Donations can be dropped off after any mass. If anyone would like to donate stock for the bar, nibbles or to help fund the cost the band, please speak to Father Guy.

The cover art this week is Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard by Johann Christian Brand, 1769. Held in the Akademie der bildenden Künste, Vienna.
