Parish News: The 29th Sunday and Week of the Year

October 20, 2023 by Guy Willis

In responding to a tricky question posed to him – do you support your people or the Emperor – Jesus avoids being drawn into a simple and divisive answer. We too must try not to be drawn into the desire of others to unreflectively take a side when things are complex and subtle. Rather, Christ calls us to consider the good of all.

You can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: every penny counts! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

You can read the readings for this Sunday here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Conor, Chinye, Victor, Mercy, Olga, John, Cordelia and Lotlia.
The Faithful departed
The recently departed, all who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls about this time amongst them Oludemi Ademosu (23rd) and Lalitha Gunawardena (27th).

Thursday November 2nd is All Souls Day when we remember before God all the faithful departed. There will be a said mass at 8.30am and a sung mass at 7pm. At the 7pm mass, names of the dead whom we particularly want to pray for will be read out. If you would like someone remembered by name please add them to the list at the back of church or email me.

Brenda, a longstanding member of our congregation, would like to come back to church but can’t manage the walk. Would you be able to help push her chair up from Osney Crescent once every few months? Please speak to Nathan for more details, who is putting together a rota.

The cover art this week is Render unto Caesar by Michiel Coxi, 1583 Held in the Museo Pontevedra, Spain.
