Parish News: The Fourth Sunday and Week of the Year

January 26, 2024 by Guy Willis

Jesus’s teaching and his casting out of demons are intimately connected. In dispensing the truth with authority, he shows that it is through him that God communicates to us. In exorcising unclean spirit from the man in the synagogue he shows that he has power to free us all, even from what is most pernicious and destructive. Truth and freedom go together.

Parish Wine Tasting, Friday February 9th 2024 at 7pm. Led by Margaret Harvey, Master of Wine – a local resident who has spent her career in wine. This tasting will include four rather different wines all with a church connection, be that name, ownership or history. Light nibbles will be provided for what promises to be a fun and sociable evening. Tickets £20 from Nathan (by cash or card after mass) or online bit.ly/SBKTWINE2024

You can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: every penny counts! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

You can see the readings for this coming Sunday here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
We are renewing the list of those for whom we pray – please let Fr Guy know of those you would like added to the parish prayer list.
The Faithful departed
The recently departed, all who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls about this time.

Ash Wednesday is on the 14th of February and is the beginning of Lent. It is a day when all Christians should go to church. Said Mass at 8.30am at St Benets, 12 noon at St Silas. Sung Mass at 7pm at St Benets. All with imposition of ashes.
