Parish News: Corpus Christi and the Ninth Week of the Year

May 31, 2024 by Guy Willis

In the feast of Corpus Christi we give thanks to God for the great gift of the Blessed Sacrament. It reminds us that when we come to church together for the mass, we are not only remembering Jesus but we are present with him, and he is present with us. By that daily and weekly encounter we are strenthened for our journey through this life on earth and prepared for the eternal banquet in heaven.

You can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: every penny counts! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

You can find the readings for this coming Sunday here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need

Brenda, Cordelia, Lolita, Reece and Vanessa.
The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s, the recently departed and those whose year’s mind falls this week.
Candidates for ordination
Nicolas Boisson, Simon Billington, Graham Haines, William Allen (Deacon) Duncan Hegan, Roger Turner, Joshua Pollard, Timothy Davies, Ben Scott (Priest).

This Friday 7th of June there will be a Solemn Mass for the feast of the Sacred Heart at St Silas, which Father Guy will celebrate.

Summer dates for your diary:
Saturday 29th June 11am: Ordination of Deacons and
Sunday 30th June 5pm: Ordination of Priests, both at St Andrew Holborn.

Patronal Festival of St Benedict:
Thursday 11th July 7pm: High Mass and Procession of the Relic of St Benedict. Preacher: Father Kyle McNeil SSC, Vicar of St Mary, Horden.

Sunday 14th July 11am: Pontifical Mass of St Benedict with Baptism and Confirmation. Preacher: Jonathan our Bishop. Followed by bring and share parish party with bouncy castle.

From Advent we will be updating the version of the scriptures that we use to the English Standard Version (ESV). It is a modern equivalent of the classic King James Version (Authorized Version). Please consider sponsoring one or more volumes of the new books which we will use at mass:

Lectionary Sunday Edition – £148.70 per volume (4 vols available)

Lectionary Weekday Edition – £83.94 per volume (4 vols available)

If you sponsor a volume there is an opportunity to place a dedication plate in it. For example, you could give a volume in memory of a loved one or in thanksgiving to God. Speak to or email Father Guy if you are interested in supporting our worship in this way.

The cover art this week is Jesus the High Priest with Melchizedek and the High Priest of the Old Covenant Anonymous, c. 19th Cent.
