At Pentecost, 50 days after Easter, the disciples receive the Holy Spirit and suddenly they are able to speak in many languages. When human pride built the Tower of Babel the result was mutual incomprehension; with the coming of the Holy Spirit the universal reign of Jesus Christ is proclaimed to all. You can find the readings for this coming Sunday here. From Advent we will be updating the version of the scriptures that we use to the English Standard Version (ESV). It is a modern equivalent of the classic King James Version (Authorized Version). Please consider sponsoring one or more volumes of the new books which we will use at mass: Lectionary Sunday Edition – £148.70 per volume (4 vols available) Lectionary Weekday Edition – £83.94 per volume (4 vols available) If you sponsor a volume there is an opportunity to place a dedication plate in it. For example, you could give a volume in memory of a loved one or in thanksgiving to God. Speak to or email Father Guy if you are interested in supporting our worship in this way. The cover art this week is Pentecost by El Greco (Domenikos Theotokopoulos), c. 1600. Held in the Museo del Prado, Madrid. |
