Many people in our world, and in our local community, are in need of some of the most basic essentials in life. The food bank we operate at St Benet’s allows us to help those in need and show them the care and love which God has for all people.
A box for food is always kept at the back of church. People are welcome to donate non-perishable items of food.
Our bank of food allows Fr Peter to give food to the homeless that call at the vicarage door. Our parish policy is that the vicar does not give money at the Vicarage front door, but is more than happy to give a gift of food from the parish community.
We also often have individuals in particular need referred to us by other charities and local authorities so we can support them with food and provisions.
In addition, the food can be used by those volunteering for the C4WS homeless project to cook the meal we offer our guests when they stay over night at Pond Square URC Church.
So, next time you’re at the super market, throw a few extra tins of food or a bag or two of pasta into the trolley, and contribute to our food bank, knowing it will go to those in most need in our local community.
