High Altar Candlesticks

December 10, 2014 by Guy Willis

St Benet’s wants to restore its set of six High Altar candles.

They have been getting into a bad state of repair for quite a while. The gilding on the candlesticks needs renewing, and for many years they have had no candles in them at all, and have run off electric bulbs. Fr Peter accidentally smashed one of the bulbs earlier on this month, and has found they can not be replaced. It would be good to return our candlesticks to having proper candles with real flames.

We have had a series of estimates for the cost of this work, and have decided to go with a quotation of £1,700 to restore all six.

A few months ago St Benet’s received a very generous benefaction of £1,500 from the estate of Hugh Davies, who worshipped at St Benet’s for many years and was married here. The PCC has decided to use this money to restore our High Altar candles.

We need a further £200 to enable this project to go ahead. Please be in touch with Fr Peter if you would like to contribute funds to this work, especially if you would like to do so in memory of a loved one.
