The details of this year’s Lent Lecture have just been announced. The title of the talk, which will take place on Friday 27th March 2020 at 7.30 pm, is, “The Infinite Vision: St Augustine and the formation of the Western Mind.” Our speaker will be the Revd Dr Dominic Keech.
St Augustine of Hippo (354-430) is one of the towering intellects of the patristic period. Dr Dominic Keech will explore with us some of the ways in which Augustine’s writings have influenced Western thought and continue to shape our theological and philosophical imagination.
Our Lent Lecture is offered every year as a way of providing an opportunity for study, discussion, and thought as we prepare for Easter. The Church urges us to reflect on our Christian faith in Lent through study in order to deepen our commitment to Jesus Christ and love of him.
Fr Dominic Keech is a scholar of St Augustine and published in 2012 a substantial work on St Augustine’s christology under the title, “The Anti-Pelagian Christology of Augustine of Hippo.” He served his curacy in Wantage, has worked as Chaplain at Brasenose College, Oxford, and is now Vicar of St Nicholas of Myra, Brighton. He is well known as a popular speaker and we look forward to hearing what he has to say!
