Parish News: 4th Sunday and Week of Lent

March 25, 2022 by Guy Willis

This Sunday is known as Laetare or Rejoice Sunday and we look forward with joy and anticipation to the Resurrection on Easter day. It is also Mothering Sunday when we give thanks for our own mothers and for the Blessed Virign Mary who, on the Cross, Jesus gave to all Christians to be the mother of us all.

You can read the scripture readings for this Sunday here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Conor, Chinye, Adelida, Jason, Rod and Edny.

The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls this week.

If you would like to make your confession this Lent, or find out more about this way in which we can receive God’s forgiveness, please speak to or contact Father Guy.

We are hosting a Homezone Community Meeting on Thursday 31 March 7.30 – 8.30 pm. Come to discuss plans for a summer street party and how to respond to current events locally. Any volunteers to help with tea and coffee and tidying up would be very welcome!

Have you ever wondered how it came to be that we worship God in the way that we do? Do you want to learn more about the mass? Bread of Heaven is our Lent Course this year – an opportunity to learn more about the meaning and history of the main act of Christian worship. It begins on Monday 7th of March at 7pm following the 6.30pm mass and runs for 2 more weeks:

28th Mar: ‘Take and Eat’
4th Apr: ‘Go forth, the Mass is ended’

Walsingham Youth Pilgrimage: Monday 1st to Friday 5th August 2022. The Youth Pilgrimage is a week of lively worship, teaching, fellowship and fun for 11–18 year olds. Over 500 young people gather in Walsingham for the week from all over the UK, giving them a chance to meet other Christians and explore their faith in a safe environment. The cost will be approximately £250 but bursaries will be available. A London coach and group is being organised for this – register your interest with Father Guy to come to a meeting to find out more.

The cover art this week is Prodigal Son a 1939 linocut by the British Canadian artist Sybil Andrews, held in the British Museum.
