Parish News: 5th Sunday and Week of Lent

April 1, 2022 by Guy Willis

On the 5th Sunday of Lent we enter the season of more intense preparation, traditionally known as Passiontide. Images in church are veiled, which makes the church more austere in preparation for the dramatic events of Good Friday. This reminds us to examine ourselves and ask if we are ready to receive God’s mercy this Easter.

You can read the scripture readings for this Sunday here.

Details of Holy Week services can be found at the bottom of this email.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
amongst them: Conor, Chinye, Adelida, Jason, Rod, Edny and John.

The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls this week.

If you would like to make your confession this Lent, or find out more about this way in which we receive God’s forgiveness, please speak to or contact Father Guy.

The cover art this week is The Woman taken in Adultery by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (1591- 1666) on display at Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Bread of Heaven, our Lent Course this year is an opportunity to learn more about the meaning and history of the mass concludes this Monday with the final session at 7pm following the 6.30pm mass.

Next Sunday (Palm Sunday) at 6pm we will have a service of Music and Readings for Holy Week. This is a joint service with St Mary, Brookfield (with their choir) and All Hallows, Gospel Oak. There will be beautiful music sung by the choir, readings from scripture and it will conclude with Benediction. Like a carol service, but for Holy Week! Do please come and support this; it would be a good opportunity to bring someone who doesn’t usually go to church.
Contributions of food for the refreshments which follow would be welcome – please speak to Heather.
