Jesus’s new commandment, ‘Love one another as I have loved you’ is a tough ask. His love is perfect, without self-interest and universal: often ours is the opposite. Nevertheless this is the callling of all of us; to see beyond the narrowness of our natural affections and ask for the grace to love even our enemies. With God, even this is possible! The cover art this week is part of the central panel Adoration of the Mystic Lamb of the Ghent Altarpiece. Painted between c. 1420 – 1432 by Hubert and Jan van Eyck and displayed in the Cathedral of St Bavo, Ghent, Belgium. Patronal Festival of Saint Benet Monday 11th July – 7pm Restoration of the Shrine of Saint Benet and Lectern. The large candlesticks at the shrine of our patron were once beautiful but they have taken some knocks over the years; the same goes for our brass lectern from which the Word of God is proclaimed.
