Parish News: The Fourth Sunday and Week of Lent

March 17, 2023 by Guy Willis

In the healing of the man born blind we see not only Jesus demonstrating his power of healing both souls and bodies, but also a metaphor for own lack of vision. His eyes are opened both physically and spiritually, yet those who see what Jesus has done are still blind to who he is. Oh that we would be like the healed man!

You can find the scriptures for this week here.

Just released: Meditation video for Lent (featuring St Benet’s and your Vicar amongst others!) https://youtu.be/w8ZhTKUJ_KY Please share!

Holy Week schedule at the bottom of the page.

Lent Programme 2023

Stations of the Cross – Fridays
Every Friday in Lent at 6.30pm for 30 minutes. In this short devotion we follow Jesus to the Cross and learn to let him bear our sufferings.

Lent Learning Course – Mondays
Join us at 7pm for one hour each Monday in Lent, after the 6.30pm Mass. We will be learning about the concept of covenant and how it can help us navigate the Bible and can help us see God’s plan through the Old Testament.

Lent Appeal – Tariro
The word tariro means “hope” in Shona, a language of Zimbabwe. They support young people until they are independent, confident, and effecting positive change for themselves and others. Hand donations marked ‘Lent Appeal’ to Fr Guy or let him know if you have made a card or electronic donation that you want to go to Tariro.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Conor, Chinye, Adelida, Jason, Rod, Edny, John, Yen, John, Sarah, Reece, Florence and Brenda.

The Faithful departed
The recently departed, all who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls this week, amongst them Iris Reynolds (20th).

The cover art is The Healing of the Man born Blind by Duccio of Siena (1307/8-11), held in the National Gallery, Room 14.
