Parish News: The 16th Sunday and Week of the Year

July 21, 2023 by Guy Willis

Weeds always grow up amongst the plants, as anyone with a garden or a window box knows too well. Jesus uses that fact as a way of explaining that we must live in the world alongside those who are both indifferent and downright opposed to the worship of God. The sorting will happen at the harvest; the end of time. We need to remember is that the judge is not ourselves, or public opinion, but God.

You can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: every penny counts! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Conor, Chinye, Victor, Mercy, Olga, John, Isaac, Cordelia and Lotlia.
The Faithful departed
The recently departed. All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls about this time.

Thank you to all who have helped in any way to make the Patronal Festival a success. We raised well over half the costs in one-off donations which has been a real help to our finances.

On Sunday 30th of July we say goodbye to Ernest Ng who has been our Pastoral Assistant this year. There will be drinks after mass on that day.

The cover art this week is The parable of the sower by the Jesus MAFA project, Cameroon 1973. Available from Art in the Christian Tradition, a project of the Vanderbilt Divinity Library, Nashville, TN.
