Parish News: The 17th Sunday and Week of the Year

July 28, 2023 by Guy Willis

The cover art this week depicts the dream of Solomon, related in our Old Testament lesson from the Book of Kings. God asks him what he desires and his request is selfless: to have the wisdom to govern justly. In a way, by asking for this he shows that he is already wise. We might ask God to grant us something of the wisdom of Solomon: to desire that which is best for others.

You can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: every penny counts! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Conor, Chinye, Victor, Mercy, Olga, John, Isaac, Cordelia and Lotlia.
The Faithful departed
The recently departed. All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls about this time amongst them Barbara Sharples (4th).

This Sunday we say goodbye to Ernest Ng who has been our Pastoral Assistant this year. Thank you, Ernest, for all you have contributed to the life of our parish.

The cover art this week is Dream of Solomon (c. 1694–1695) by Luca Giordano held in the Museo del Prado, Madrid.
