Parish News: Twenty Eighth Sunday and Week of the Year

October 11, 2024 by Guy Willis

When the rich young man asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life, he doesn’t like the answer he gets. To give up that which he thinks gives him his idenitity – his riches. But rather than undertstanding his wealth as a gift and privilege for which to be thankful, he has forgotten that this is not the account that truly matters. Which treasure are you counting?

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

You can find the readings for this coming Sunday here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need

Brenda, Reece, Vanessa, John, Chinye and Lynne.
The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s, the recently departed and those whose year’s mind falls this week.

All Saints
On Friday 1st November, the Solemnity of All Saints, we are invited to St Silas for Solemn Mass of the feast at 7.30pm.

All Souls
On Tuesday 5th November at 7pm there will be a Sung Mass of Requiem for All Souls. At this mass we will pray for all the faithful who have died and ask that God receive them into heaven. If you would like the name a loved one read out, please add them in block capitals to the list at the back of church.

We are invited to the All Hallows Gospel Oak Patronal Festival on Sunday 3rd November at 5pm: Pontifical High Mass with the Bishop of Fulham. Vierne, Messe Solennelle with two organs. Followed by a grand reception.

The cover art this week is Jesus and the Rich Young Man by Alexander Master c. 1430. Held in the Koninklijke Bibliotheek, The Hague.
