Parish News: The Second Sunday and Week of Advent

December 6, 2024 by Guy Willis

It is easy to be caught up in the festive fervour of Christmas before it is here, without really preparing ourselves. And so throughout Advent, the focus of the liturgy is on getting ready for the Lord Jesus when he comes. This Sunday, Saint John the Baptist calls us to repentance to ‘prepare the way for the Lord.’

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no regular central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

The readings for this Sunday are available here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, Victoria, John and Chinye.

The faithful departed
All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s, the recently departed, amongst them Barbara Webb, and those whose year’s mind falls this week amongst them Norma de Rougemont (12th).

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception falls on Monday 9th this year. Mass at noon at St Benets and Solemn Mass at 7.30pm at St Silas, NW5 2QP.

Christmas Highlights:
Christmas Lessons and Carols: Sunday 22nd December, 6pm
Children’s Carols Around the Crib: Christmas Eve, 4pm
