Parish News: 16th Sunday and Week of the Year

July 18, 2025 by Guy Willis

It may be that the modern world is especially full of distractions from God, but the truth is that we have always found ways to avoid confronting the big questions of life. In this Sunday’s Gospel, Mary and Martha can be seen as two tendencies in all of us – to busy ourselves with other things, or to listen to him who has the message of eternal life.

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no regular central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

The readings for this coming Sunday are available here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, John, Chinye, Cheryl, Ann, Mana, Chika, Sonny and Alessandro
The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped and served here, those who have died recently and those whose year’s mind falls about this time, amongst them Alfred Farrer (21st) and Charlotte Ann Wilson (24th).

The cover art is Christ in the house of Mary and Martha, School of Rembrandt Harmensz Van Rijn (Leiden 1606 – 1669 Amsterdam). Location unknown.
