Parish News: The 4th Sunday and Week of Lent

March 13, 2026 by Guy Willis

This Sunday marks the half way point to Easter. On a long journey we need to stop and take refreshment and the same is true of our path through Lent. So on this Sunday the liturgical mood is lightened from deep purple to rose pink; a glimpse of the glory of the resurrection on Easter Sunday. It is also Mothering Sunday when we give thanks to God for our mothers and for Mary, Mother of God and spiritual mother of all Christians.

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no regular central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

The readings for this Sunday can be found here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, John, Cheryl, Ann, Chika, Alessandro, Sonny, Jan, Danielle and Grace.
The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped and served here, those who have died recently, amongst them Doreen Dewberry and Grace Onyefulu, and those whose year’s mind falls about this time, amongst them Richard Arnold, Priest (Vicar) (16th), Claudette Wharton (18th), Iris Reynolds, Joy Thomas, Sylvia Boon (20th), Eric Sutherland, Priest (21st).

Fridays in Lent (from 27th Feb) Mass 6pm, Stations of the Cross 6.30pm. In the Stations of the Cross we follow Jesus from his condemnation to his burial. It lasts about 30 minutes and is an excellent way to deepen your life of prayer during this holy season.

Jonathan our Bishop warmly invites you all to his Lay People’s Congress: Ready with a Reason at which Bishop Lindsay Urwin OGS will help us to reflect on how we can more effective in our sharing of the Good News of Jesus Christ. Saturday 21st March 2026 10.00am – 3.30pm at St Alban’s, Holborn EC1N 7RD.

The cover art is Christ Healing the Man Born Blind, between 1570 and 1575, by Doménikos Theotokópoulos (El Greco) held in the Galleria nazionale di Parma.
