Parish News: The 5th Sunday and Week of Lent

March 20, 2026 by Guy Willis

In the final week before Holy Week, the images in the church are veiled in purple. This reminds that although we cannot see the glory of heaven with our physical eyes, we do behold with the eyes of faith the resurrection life. In fasting for a while from some of the beauty to be found in the church we also are made more aware of the veiled and compromised beauty of God’s creation.

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no regular central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

The readings for this Sunday can be found here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, John, Cheryl, Ann, Chika, Alessandro, Sonny, Jan, Danielle and Grace.
The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped and served here, those who have died recently, amongst them Doreen Dewberry and Grace Onyefulu, and those whose year’s mind falls about this time, amongst them Geoff Horn (23rd).

Fridays in Lent (from 27th Feb) Mass 6pm, Stations of the Cross 6.30pm. In the Stations of the Cross we follow Jesus from his condemnation to his burial. It lasts about 30 minutes and is an excellent way to deepen your life of prayer during this holy season.

The cover art is The Resurrection of Lazarus by Juan de Flandes (between 1514 and 1519) held in the Museo del Prado, Madrid.
