Parish News: 19th Sunday and Week of the Year

August 7, 2026 by Guy Willis

When Jesus walks on water, he shows not only his divine power but also his willingness to save us – for as Peter falters he offers out his hand and saves him. We all fall sometimes, but the Lord is always there to lift us up, if we would but cry out: Lord, save me!

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no regular central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

The readings for this Sunday are available here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, John, Cheryl, Ann, Chika, Sonny, Danielle, Grace, Mary, Carl, Rex, Mary, Chinye and Fr Luke Demetri.
The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped and served here, those who have died recently and those whose year’s mind falls about this time, amongst them Melvina Akers (9th) and Gwyn Clement, Priest (10th).

During August there will be no weekday masses whilst Father Guy takes some rest and holiday. Sundays will be as usual with Sung Mass and Sunday School and weekday masses resume on Monday 31st August. If you would like to go to a weekday mass, you can try our neighbouring parishes of St Silas NW5 2QP, St Mary NW5 1SL and All Hallows NW3 2JP. Check their website news pages for times.

Father Gwyn Clement was known to many of us here at St Benets and in his retirement often offered cover here. He died one year ago and there will be a Solemn Mass for his first anniversary at St Mary Brookfield NW5 1SL on Tuesday 11th August at 7pm.

We are invited on the afternoon of the The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Sunday 16th August) to join the people of St Luke’s, Uxbridge Road, W12 0NS at 5pm for Sung Mass (Preacher: Fr Philip Warner SSC) followed by a BBQ and summer party.

We are also invited to First Vespers of the Assumption on Saturday 15th August at 5pm at St Silas NW5 2QP.

The cover art is Saint Pierre tentant de marcher sur les eaux by François Boucher, c. 1766. At the Cathédrale Saint-Louis de Versailles.
