Parish News: 25th Sunday and Week of the Year

September 18, 2026 by Guy Willis

In the parable Jesus tells, it seems unfair that the labourers who do fewer hours of work get the same pay. The truth is that we need to have our concept of what we deserve challenged. Whilst on earth we may or may not be justly rewarded for our efforts, in heaven we will get far more than we could ever obtain by our own merits.

You can read the scripture set for this Sunday here.

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no regular central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, John, Cheryl, Ann, Chika, Sonny, Danielle, Grace, Carl, Rex, Mary, Chinye and Fr Luke Demetri.
The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped and served here, those who have died recently amongst them Marcelo de Susa and those whose year’s mind falls about this time, amongst them Obi Onyefulu (22nd) and Brian Masters, Bishop (23rd).

Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham. Thursday 24th September 7pm. Come and join the people and clergy of St Silas, NW5 3QP for this feast, honouring Mary under her most important English title. Solemn Mass. Preacher: Canon Paul Cartwright SSC.

Choral Evensong of Michaelmas. Sunday 27th September 5pm. At All Hallows, NW3 2JP. Followed by drinks.

All Souls Day Lamps. If you wish to have a seven-day lamp lit for departed relatives or friends for the week of All Souls’ Day (2nd Nov), please add your name to the list at the back of church or speak to Terry for more information. These lamps will cost £6 each.

The cover art is In the Vineyard by J.F. Millet (1852). Held in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
