Parish News: Fifth Sunday and Week of Easter

May 13, 2022 by Guy Willis

Jesus’s new commandment, ‘Love one another as I have loved you’ is a tough ask. His love is perfect, without self-interest and universal: often ours is the opposite. Nevertheless this is the callling of all of us; to see beyond the narrowness of our natural affections and ask for the grace to love even our enemies. With God, even this is possible!

You can read the scripture readings for this Sunday here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Conor, Chinye, Adelida, Jason, Rod Edny & John.

The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls this week, amongst them George Bunting (16th).

The Annual Parochial Church Meeting will be held on Sunday 22nd May at 12.30pm.

The cover art this week is part of the central panel Adoration of the Mystic Lamb of the Ghent Altarpiece. Painted between c. 1420 – 1432 by Hubert and Jan van Eyck and displayed in the Cathedral of St Bavo, Ghent, Belgium.

Patronal Festival of Saint Benet
Sunday 10th July – 11am
Sung Mass of Saint Benedict, Our Patron. Followed by a bring and share parish lunch and party with bouncy castle.

Monday 11th July – 7pm
Solemn Mass of Saint Benedict, Our Patron and Procession of the Relic.
Guest Preacher: Father Graeme Rowlands SSC, Vicar, Saint Silas Kentish Town. Followed by drinks.

Restoration of the Shrine of Saint Benet and Lectern. The large candlesticks at the shrine of our patron were once beautiful but they have taken some knocks over the years; the same goes for our brass lectern from which the Word of God is proclaimed. I’ve already received a donation which gets us nearly half way towards the £1300 needed to restore them both. Would you like to contribute?

Yours in Christ Jesus Our Lord,

Father Guy
