Parish News: 28th Sunday and Week of the Year

October 9, 2026 by Guy Willis

Being thrown out of a wedding party by security: this is the image that Jesus uses to illustrate how those will be dealt with who are not fit for the kingdom of heaven. The point is to show the contrast between the joy of the wedding feast (heaven) and the misery of the alleyway outside (the outer darkness – hell). The contrast is bewteen joy, warmth, love and community or isolation, fear and pain. We know, I think, where we would rather be!

You can read the scripture set for this Sunday here.

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no regular central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, John, Ann, Chika, Sonny, Danielle, Grace, Carl, Rex, Mary, Chinye, Rob and Fr Luke Demetri.
The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped and served here, those who have died recently, amongst them Marcelo de Susa and Joseph Cheriah as well as those whose year’s mind falls about this time, amongst them Mary Wallis Jones (11th), Bill Freeman (12th), Henri Berhet, Priest (13th), Michael Harvey, Priest (14th), Annie Billy (15th) and Frederick Hunt (17th).

All Souls Day is on Monday 2nd November. There will be a Sung Mass with Choir at 7pm. If you would like a loved one remembered by name, please add their name to the list at the back of church.

All Souls Day Lamps. If you wish to have a seven-day lamp lit for departed relatives or friends for the week of All Souls’ Day (2nd Nov), please add your name to the list at the back of church or speak to Terry for more information. These lamps will cost £6 each.

We are invited on Thursday 12th November at 7pm to St Silas NW5 3QP for a Solemn Requiem in the Extraordinary Form (‘Tridentine Rite’).

The St Benet’s Christmas Raffle will be drawn after Mass on Sunday 13th December. Tickets are now on sale at £2 each from Mary Kavanagh. All proceeds will go to church funds.

The cover art is The Wedding Banquet by Pieter Brueghel the Younger c. 1620. Held in a private collection.
