Parish News: Dedication Festival and Thirtieth Week of the Year

October 25, 2024 by Guy Willis

This Sunday we celebrate the 139th Anniversary of the Dedication of our Church, which took place on the 31st of October 1885. On that day this building set aside as a place which would point to heaven, where we can come close to God and God will come close to us.

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

The readings this Sunday are not available online.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, Vanessa, John, Chinye and Lynne.

The faithful departed
All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s, the recently departed, amongst them Carlene  Gaye and those whose year’s mind falls this week, amongst them Lalitha Gunawardena (27th), Jane Roberts (2nd) and Gerald Robinson (2nd).

All are invited to come and support our near neighbours at St Pancras Old Church NW1 1UL this Sunday 27th October at 3pm when Fr Owen Dobson will be licensed as Priest-in-Charge of St Pancras Old Church and St Paul’s Camden Square.

All Saints On Friday 1st November, the Solemnity of All Saints, we are invited to St Silas for Solemn Mass of the feast at 7.30pm.

All Souls On Tuesday 5th November at 7pm there will be a Sung Mass of Requiem for All Souls. At this mass we will pray for all the faithful who have died and ask that God receive them into heaven. If you would like the name a loved one read out, please add them in block capitals to the list at the back of church.

We are invited to the All Hallows Gospel Oak Patronal Festival on Sunday 3rd November at 5pm: Pontifical High Mass with the Bishop of Fulham. Vierne, Messe Solennelle with two organs. Followed by a grand reception.

The cover art this week is a 1905 photograph of the interior of the original church building, since almost entirely rebuilt due to structural problems.
