Parish News: The 26th Sunday and Week of the Year

September 29, 2023 by Guy Willis

In the parable of the two sons which we hear this Sunday, one is unwilling but does what he is asked, the other is willing but does not. This reminds us that we may have good intentions, but unless we act upon them, they are not worth very much. Or to look at it another way, we must both pray ‘thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven’ and also do what we can in our lives to make that a reality.

You can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: every penny counts! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

You can read the readings for this Sunday here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Conor, Chinye, Victor, Mercy, Olga, John, Isaac, Cordelia and Lotlia.
The Faithful departed
The recently departed, all who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls about this time.

The annual Barn Dance returns this Friday 6th October 6.45pm to 10pm:
– Pro band & caller
– Free nibbles
– Bar
– Raffle
Prices held from last year: £2.50 per child, £5 per adult.  or pay cash or card to Nathan after mass.

We need prizes for the barn dance raffle which are suitable both for adults and for children. Donations can be dropped off after any mass. If anyone would like to donate stock for the bar, nibbles or to help fund the cost the band, please speak to Father Guy.

Brenda, a longstanding member of our congregation, would like to come back to church but can’t manage the walk. Would you be able to help push her chair up from Osney Crescent once every few months? Please speak to Nathan for more details, who is putting together a rota.

The cover art this week is The Parable of the Father and His Two Sons in the Vineyard by Georg Pencz, 1534–35. Held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
