Parish News: The 28th Sunday and Week of the Year

October 13, 2023 by Guy Willis

We can be easily distracted by so many cares and responsibilities that it can make it hard to see that the invitation God offers us is the best we will ever get. This week’s parable warns us not to reject the offer he makes; and also reminds us that admission to the Kingdom of God is not because of our worthiness, but God’s mercy.

You can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: every penny counts! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

You can read the readings for this Sunday here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Conor, Chinye, Victor, Mercy, Olga, John, Isaac, Cordelia and Lotlia.
The Faithful departed
The recently departed, all who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s and those whose year’s mind falls about this time.

This week Mass and Benediction will be on Tuesday at 6.30pm instead of the usual slot on Wednesday owing to a school governors meeting

Thursday November 2nd is All Souls Day when we remember before God all the faithful departed. There will be a said mass at 8.30am and a sung mass at 7pm. At the 7pm mass, names of the dead whom we particularly want to pray for will be read out. If you would like someone remembered by name please add them to the list at the back of church or email me.

Brenda, a longstanding member of our congregation, would like to come back to church but can’t manage the walk. Would you be able to help push her chair up from Osney Crescent once every few months? Please speak to Nathan for more details, who is putting together a rota.

The cover art this week is The parable of the wedding feast by Peter Artsen, 1550. Held in the Cummer Museum of Art, Jacksonville, Florida.
