Parish News: The Second Sunday and Week of Easter

April 25, 2025 by Guy Willis

In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear about Saint Thomas, who does not believe until he sees Jesus risen. He is often called ‘doubting Thomas’, though he really is ‘believing Thomas’ – it is just that he wants to see for himself. Are we like him ready to believe, and looking for the signs that Jesus lives? Or are we yet more blessed “who have not seen and yet believe”?

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no regular central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

The readings for this Sunday are available here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, John, Chinye and Cheryl.

The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped in and served at Saint Benet’s, those who have died recently, amongst them Vanessa Manship, and those whose year’s mind falls about this time, amongst them Emmanuel Onyefulu (28th), Lucas Edward Langley (29th) and Olusoji Lemoshe (30th).

This Saturday 4th May is the Society of Mary May Devotion, beginning at St Silas NW5 3QP at 12 noon. After mass we process to Holy Trinity NW1 8DE witnessing to our love for Jesus through his Blessed Mother. Lunch is available on the day for £10 on the door.

On Sunday 6th July Jonathan our Bishop will be here to celebrate mass for us on the Sunday of St Benedict. At that mass Baptism and Confirmation will be offered. If this is something you would like to explore for you or your children, please speak to Father Guy or email him. A course of preparation will take place on Sunday mornings at 10am from Sunday 4th May.

Georges Iskandar is to be ordained  to the sacred order of Deacon by our bishop Jonathan at 11am on Saturday 28th June at Saint Andrew Holborn, EC4A 3AF. Please pray for him now as he prepares and come to the ordination in June.

The cover art is The incredulity of Thomas from an English manuscript c.1504 (Peniarth MS 482D) held in the National Library of Wales.
