Parish News: The 21st Sunday and Week of the Year

August 22, 2025 by Guy Willis

When Jesus talks about trying to go through the narrow door, he is recognising how easy it is to do the wrong thing and how very hard it can be to do what is right. It only gets more difficult the more challenging the circumstances of our life are. So we pray for the grace of God to guide us in the right paths and to give us the courage at all times to seek what is good.

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no regular central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

The readings for this coming Sunday are available here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, John, Chinye, Cheryl, Ann, Mana, Chika, Alessandro and Sonny.
The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped and served here, those who have died recently, amongst them Gwyn Clement, Priest and those whose year’s mind falls about this time.

During August there will be no weekday masses whilst Father Guy takes some holiday and helps lead a pilgrimage to Lourdes. Sundays will be as usual and weekday masses resume on Monday 1st September. If you would like to go to a weekday mass, you can try our neighbouring parishes of St Silas NW5 2QP, St Mary NW5 1SL and All Hallows NW3 2JP. Check their website news pages for times.

The funeral of Father Gwyn Clement SSC will take place at St Mary Brookfield, NW5 1SL on Thursday 28th August at 1pm. The day before, his body will be received into church on Wednesday 27th August at 4.30pm after which Solemn Vespers of the Dead will be celebrated at 5.30pm.
