Parish News: 21st Sunday and Week of the Year

August 28, 2026 by Guy Willis

When Peter challenges the prophecy that Jesus must suffer, die and rise again he does so because he is unable to see beyond the present. He wants things to stay as they are, but all cannot be the same if God’s plan is to come to fruition. We should neither be attached to change nor stasis for their own sakes, but always desiring that God’s will be done.

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no regular central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

The readings for this Sunday are available here.

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, John, Cheryl, Ann, Chika, Sonny, Danielle, Grace, Carl, Rex, Mary, Chinye and Fr Luke Demetri.
The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped and served here, those who have died recently and those whose year’s mind falls about this time, amongst them Charles Atkins, Lorraine Benfield (30th), Betty Sweetman (1st), Edith Reynolds and Peggy Taylor (2nd).

Today we welcome John Zachariah as our new Pastoral Assistant.

We are invited to:
– Pontifical Choral Evensong, Procession and Veneration of the Relics on the Feast of the Translation of the Relics of St Cuthbert at 6pm on Sunday 6th September at St Cuthbert, Philbeach Gardens SW5 9EB. Followed by a reception.
– Solemn Mass on their Patronal Festival of the Birthday of the Blessed Virign Mary at 7pm on Tuesday 8th September at St Mary Brookfield NW5 1SL. Preacher: Father Guy Willis SSC. Followed by drinks and supper.

The cover art is Get Thee Behind Me, Satan by Ilya Repin, 1895. Held in the State Russian Museum, St Petersburg.
