Parish News: 29th Sunday and Week of the Year

October 16, 2026 by Guy Willis

In responding to a tricky question posed to him – do you support your people or the Emperor – Jesus avoids being drawn into a simple and divisive answer. We too must try not to be drawn into the desire of others to unreflectively take a side when things are complex and subtle. Rather, Christ calls us to consider the good of all.

You can read the scripture set for this Sunday here.

St Benet’s is self supporting: we receive no regular central church or government funding, so you can donate using card online to support St Benet’s: and every penny really does count! You can also donate by cash or card in person, by texting BENET followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount. Or why not set up a regular standing order with your bank?

Please pray for:
The sick and those in need
Brenda, Reece, John, Ann, Chika, Sonny, Danielle, Grace, Carl, Rex, Mary, Chinye, Rob and Fr Luke Demetri.
The Faithful departed
All who have worshipped and served here, those who have died recently as well as those whose year’s mind falls about this time, amongst them Joyce Allen (18th), Edie Ellis (20th), Sidney Henderson (23rd), Oludemi Ademosu and Michael Jarvis (24th)

The St Benet’s Christmas Raffle will be drawn after Mass on Sunday 13th December. Tickets are now on sale at £2 each from Mary K.

Our pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham will be 18th to the 20th of June 2027. For more details see the sheet at the back of church or speak to Terry.

All Souls Day is on Monday 2nd November. There will be a Sung Mass with Choir at 7pm. If you would like a loved one remembered by name, please add their name to the list at the back of church. You need to do this even if you did so last year!

All Souls Day Lamps. If you wish to have a seven-day lamp lit for departed relatives or friends for the week of All Souls’ Day (2nd Nov), please add your name to the list at the back of church or speak to Terry for more information. £6 each.

We are invited on Thursday 12th November at 7pm to St Silas NW5 3QP for a Solemn Requiem in the Extraordinary Form.

The cover art is The Tribute Money by Jacek Malczewski (1854–1929), held in the National Museum in Poznań.
